| End O the Alley Bar Big Jim Brown was the creative engine behind independent band Sweet Pea's Revenge for over 7 years. Now he is continuing to push for quality music by presenting his alt country/roots rock/Americana sound under his own name. Big Jim Brown represents a return to the gritty, raw sound that American rock-n-roll was born from. People are tired of the antiseptic, generic sounds coming from corporate radio, and they're rediscovering the attraction of real music created by musicians who still have their souls. Big Jim Brown is on the leading edge of this movement. Writers can't help but compare him to some of the best in the business, like Robert Earl Keen, Government Mule, Drive By Truckers, and Tom Petty. Big Jim tours extensively throughout the Southeast and Mountain West, stopping at world-famous clubs like Tipitina's and House of Blues in New Orleans; the Green Parrot in Key West; Judge Roy Bean's in Fairhope, AL; the Handlebar in Greenville, SC; Proud Larry's in Oxford, MS; the Orange Peel in Asheville; Buffalo Rose in Golden, CO; Quixote's in Denver; and Third and Linsey in Nashville. He has also been active on the festival scene, with appearances at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Pensacola Springfest, and more. Some of the acts Big Jim has played alongside include Delbert McClinton, Randall Bramlett, and Government Mule. Big Jim Brown handles songwriting, lead guitar and vocals and is backed up by a smokin' rhythm section he likes to call "The Huevos del Amor." Reviews of the band's performances and 4 independent CDs have been unanimously positive: "Jim Brown is a talent, with a rough-edge voice that is alternately seductive, strong and soulful." . . . "They are a refreshing change from the alternative that's not so alternative anymore." . . . "[They lay] down a sort of laid-back intensity that sounds like an old T-Bird looks: sleek and shiny on top, gritty and dirty under the hood." |
